It's probably about time to stop buying milk in the US.

Article from The Washington Post: "Dairy cows infected with second version of bird flu"

The image shows a close-up of dairy cows being milked in a milking facility, with equipment attached to their udders.

"Dairy cows in Nevada have been infected with a second version of the avian influenza virus that is different from the one rampaging through herds since the spring, Agriculture Department officials said Wednesday."

i thought there was at least some process that cow milk goes through that can zap pathogens like a virus?

like, are these strains of bird flus surviving pasteurization, filtering/having lactose removed?

As difficult as it's been to go dairy-free for the baby, I'm glad I'm not having that particular exposure. It sucks to not be able to use a significant chunk of our WIC benefits, but at least we still get eggs, and those are OK as long as we're cooking them completely (no runny yolks, friends!).
