@Gerda de Vos, I spent 12 hours yesterday in my new 1000 square meter garden cutting off the field thistle flowers (Canada thistle), breaking up and crushing the hard earth, removing the weeds (mainly field bindweed and chamomile), and planting potatoes. I need about 90 minutes to plant 1 potato tuber. Can I be ok?

Do I have to use herbicides because of all the weeds?

Oh I really don't know anything about gardening haha
@Miguela What do you think, can I do without herbicides? Or do I have to do a tabula rasa?

You have the same uncomfortable model of watering can as I do :) (in this watering can is inconvenient to pour water from a bucket).

The first year after weeds is very difficult to work the soil (I understand you), then it will be easier.

I do not use herbicides at all. You can cut the weeds so they do not give new seeds. Collect them in a compost pile. Your soil is very poor, it needs to be enriched. I also bury food scraps to make the soil nutritious. Also, to get rid of weeds and enrich the soil, you can plant siderads - useful plants (mustard, Phacelia, Vicia sativa, Pisum sativum, Vícia fába, Ráphanus)

@Lieschen Müller's father, les conseils de @Gerda de Vos sont excellents !
Je pense que l'on peut se passer des pesticides, oui.
Il existe beaucoup de témoignages et de techniques dans cette direction, de ne plus empoisonner la terre.
You can also cover the soil with large sheets of cardboard or newspaper (5-6 layers at a time) and plant a pumpkin in the holes. This will help get rid of weeds (they don't live without light) and you won't have to dig over the soil much.
@Gerda de Vos Thanks for the tips. I will try them.
However, there are several hundred Canada thistles on the small area. I can't get rid of all of them with ecological means. On the approximately 50 square meters where I want to grow vegetables I will chop them up, but on the remaining 950 square meters I only want to spray the leaves of the thistles with U46 M Fluid. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCPA

This bucket, next to it a "Blaue St.Galler" (blue) potato plant, is the solution to the watering can problem.
