## Why I joined Friendica

1. fedi.tips/why-do-some-people-o… explains the 500 character limit for posts on Mastodon, which I personally found annoying. It also explicitly mentions how #Friendica has no such limit.
2. #Mastodon reminds me too much of twitter -- a better copy of something viral and sensationalist, while Friendica reminds me of old net forums combined with modern conveniences and protocols.
3. mastodon.social has a large chunk of fediverse users, this threatens the decentralized fediverse: fedi.tips/its-a-really-bad-ide… Meanwhile Friendica-Servers in general have a smaller user-base. The advantages to that are listed in the linked article.
4. The sign-up experience actually was really pleasant.

Things I wish the Friendica had: Markdown support. I love writing markdown. Instead Friendica has its own tag-based mark-up language that looks like this for example: `[quote]` ... It is cool that it exists as opposed to mastodon, where all posts are raw text without any formatting possibilities.
